Our conference is dedicated to our devoted supporter, Salt Lake Community College President

Dr. Deneece Huftalin.

 

 

For the Kierkegaardian Wisdom of Hope in framing the conceptual and methodological foundation of the International Student Philosophy Conference Project at the moment of its creation on the mysterious first year of this millenia 2000;

For the Augustinian Wisdom of Love in supporting the academic aspirations of diverse constituents of SLCC student body in achieving the international high standards of academic excellence in the intellectually challenging field of Philosophy;

For the Aristotelian Wisdom of Telos, an Unconditional Commitment to the Mission of the Conference in providing ALL SLCC STUDENTS an excellent opportunity of creative academic self-expression, in a full and unlimited exercise of their academic freedom, decency, and integrity;

For the Confucian Wisdom of Perfect Organization in mentoring the Conference Student Board of Directors, year after year, on the most effective intellectual tools and devices for the optimal solution of any managerial task and problem;

For the Humean Wisdom of Happiness in teaching the Conference participants the joy of high culture as the most valuable part of our everyday existence.

 

 

Biography


Dr. Deneece G. Huftalin is the eighth President of Salt Lake Community College and feels privileged to have served the students of Salt Lake Community College for more than two decades in various roles.

 

Dr. Huftalin joined SLCC in 1992 as the Director of Academic and Career Advising and in 1994 was named Dean of Students. In addition to working with students, she has worked in collaboration with faculty to strengthen learning communities, the first year experience, learning outcomes and inclusivity initiatives on campus. Dr. Huftalin was named Vice President of Student Services in 2004 and served in that capacity until 2014.

 

In addition to her professional role, Dr. Huftalin is a faculty member for Leadershape, Inc. an international non-profit focused on student leadership development and teaches in the Education, Leadership and Policy program at the University of Utah. Dr. Huftalin serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the leading Student Affairs association. She currently serves as a board member for the Utah YWCA and previously served on the Utah Arts Festival Board.

Dr. Huftalin earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, a master’s degree in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles and a doctorate in Education, Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah.
